Tutorial: How to Cut a shape Out of an Image in Photoshop/ Photoshop Elements

Recently I’ve been trying to learn how to cut shapes out of images in Photoshop Elements 9. Some of the other tutorials I found were okay, but when I attempted to mess with it on my own, I found that using the brush tool makes it really easy!

What I was trying to do is simply get a perfect, circular shaped image, and i will show you how to do so right now in just a few easy steps!

First, of course choose your image. I decided to just go with a shot from Instagram of myself and friends for this tutorial.

IMG_20120804_151022Once you open your photo in Photoshop, create a new layer on top of it.

Next, go to your brushes and choose a brush. For learning purposes I will keep it simple and choose a plain circular brush from the Default Brushes.

Now choose any color of you liking, preferably one that you can easily see contrasted against the image. Before you start painting on your image, raise the size of the brush to your desired size and put it on Layer 1. My size was about 670 px.

If you didn’t quite get the brush right where you wanted it, no worries. You don’t have to keep undoing it and re-painting. Just click your Move Tool and move or morph your circle however you want until you’re satisfied.

When you’re happy with your location, select your Magic Wand Tool, and click on your circle so it is selected. (Be sure you’re still on Layer 1)

Now that your shape is selected, go to your layer menu on the right, and click the eyeball icon next to Layer 1, so that it is now invisible. (Your circle should still be selected though)

Now click the Background layer from the layer menu, so that it is now highlighted, and click ctrl+C on your keyboard so the selected image is copied. Once it is copied, either paste it into a new image, or paste it as its own image from the clipboard. And you’re done!

You  can also do this with other brush shapes that are filled in, and shapes as well! Have fun!

The Shop: Fine Jewelry Photoshoot

Today was a nice cloudy day outside, giving me good conditions for re-shooting some of my fine jewelry pieces in the shop. The clouds give a nice cover to the sun’s bright rays, while still giving me nice enough lighting for some shots. I decided to re-shoot some of my items because I’m not liking the plain white background that I chose to show case my finest items. I thought that they needed a little nature vibe to them to bring out their true colors and let them shine. I think they came out pretty good considering I’m only shooting with an Iphone!

Here’s a few of before and afters, I hope you enjoy them. Feel free to leave me a comment of what you think of the new backgrounds as well! I love having public feedback to work with, it really helps me know what people are looking for when deciding on whether or not to click on an item.

Shop Update: International Shipping

Good afternoon everyone! I just have a quick update from my Etsy shop, ProlificCreations. With some research, and more than a few nudges from possible customers, we now offer jewelry shipping to everyone. And when I say everyone, I mean it. We used to only ship to the US, Canada, and the UK, but now we offer world wide at an affordable price! Also, this update is only for our jewelry pieces, no home decor or wedding items, unless upon singular request. Sorry! (Those prices are much higher and complicated to compute.)

Needless to say, I am very excited and can’t wait to make some customers happy world wide!

Bye for now!

The Color Run Austin 2013

So, at the beginning of May, I finally had the chance to participate in the Color Run, and it was so much fun! It was an early birthday present from my dad, and I really enjoyed it. I signed up to do the 5k last year, but the weather was horrible with rain and wind on a 40 degree dark morning, that I didn’t get to attend. But this year, the weather was perfect for running! I was nervous though because I can’t remember the last time I even remotely attempted to exercise, and I thought I was going to be slow to finish. But, to my surprise, I actually jogged the whole thing, and I felt energized and ready for more after!

People of all ages and speeds were there, getting powdered with color, and it was great because all of the proceeds go towards cancer research. So if the Color Run goes to your city, or one near you, sign up because it is well worth the fun. Plus, you get free photos afterwards!

Review: Skin Candy, Nature’s Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Body Wash

While house and pet sitting for a lovely couple, I was left with trying shower products that I have not used before. I have very sensitive skin, so I was a little worried of the after effects they would hold on me. But, when I opened a bottle of Nature’s Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Body Wash, I immediately fell in love with the scent alone. The smell is so wonderful, like something you would sip while sitting on the beach.

Not only is this body wash delightful to the nose, but it is to the skin as well. This bottle contains 7 skin moisturizers, and it is great because they utilize natural ingredients while remaining environmentally friendly and cruelty free! I may have over indulged a bit when lathering up with it, but it really did leave me feeling fresh and nicely moisturized. With some perfumey body washes, my skin later starts to feel a little itchy and dry, but I did not feel that at all with this body wash. I felt that it really is as great as their description suggests:

“Hydrates and pampers skin with ultra rich moisturizers and lather while age defying antioxidants and nutrients nourish skin. Our unique combination of 7 skin conditioning moisturizers deliver rich, long lasting hydration. Skin is left soft and supple.”

I instantly fell for this product and will definitely have to pick up myself a bottle on the way home!

My Night With a Beatle

My chance to witness a Beatle in the flesh finally came when Sir Paul McCartney took center stage last night in Austin, Texas during his Out There Tour. This was more than a dream come true for me and I honestly cannot count the times that I got choked up while trying to sing his songs, holding back tears of joy. It felt so unreal to see one of the men, who I’ve grown to love, sing the songs of my childhood live and interact with an audience that I was a part of.

He performed mostly Beatles songs, and even now, I still can’t believe that I witnessed the last performing Beatle play and sing them in concert. He opened with Eight Days a Week and closed, during his second encore, with the song I most anticipated, The End. The best part of the concert was getting to recognize that Paul is still, and always will be, the goofy man that I’ve always imagined him being. He is still young at heart and full of energy just like he was back in all of his Beatles flicks.

I will never forget the night of May 22, 2013. And now, I have something to cross off my Bucket List…
